Belfield 1794 on the Barnett Estate is unique in that it stands in what was once a sugar mill. The sturdy circular, stone building round which oxen once plodded, turning the great press which squeezed the juice from the sugar cane, has been creatively remodeled into an attractive dining room and bar.

This elegant restaurant is set on the 3,000–acre Barnett Estate and is operated by Elegant Resorts International. The restaurant is an old sugar mill. Soft lighting warms the stone walls and creates a cozy atmosphere where diners can enjoy the best of fare. The open–air restaurant features a view of the city and a menu that combines a taste of both Jamaica and the Caribbean. Menu selections include spicy ackee–tomato salsa on smoked marlin, curried goat, escoveitch fish, plantation salad, jerk pork Belfield, steamed fish Port Royal and sweet potato pudding.

This place invokes love at first sight. Guests normally have cocktails in the waiting area before touring the great house situated on Barnett Estate. The dining room has a thatched roof and no walls. Diners can enjoy sumptuous Jamaican fare while soaking up the rustic ambience. The furniture is fashioned from old bar kegs lined with blue or red upholstery. Gas lamps add to the atmosphere.

After your meal, enjoy a leisurely stroll over to the great house. The restored historic house is open to visitors; guided tours are available before or after dinner.
