Coyaba River Garden and Museum - Ocho Rios, Jamaica

We have a new feature..."Ysassis Lookout Point", which offers a panoramic view of Ocho Rios Bay, and the cruise ship terminals, adjoining the Mahoe Falls by a wheelchair friendly wooden walkway. Ysassi was the Last Spanish Governor of Jamaica, and spent some of his last days in Jamaica at Shaw Park, where he was defeated in 1660 by English forces.

Mahoe Falls

The serenity of a genuine water garden, fed by streams that rise on the property, with beautiful, exquisite Jamaican Spanish architecture. Visit the spectacular Mahoe waterfalls and Museum of Island History focusing on the forgotten Taino / Arawak culture of Jamaica's first inhabitants. Stop by the shop of island curios and crafts, rums and coffees. Take in the breathtaking views of the Bay of Ocho Rios or sit the shade of giant banyan and cedar trees. Enjoy the great taste of Jamaica's famous Blue Mountain Coffee that is served in a cut–stone courtyard. There is a natural aquarium filled with koi carp, mullet, snappers and turtles.

This beautiful park and museum is located 420 feet above sea level on the grounds of a perfectly manicured plantation. The word "coyaba" means paradise in the Arawak language. Here you'll learn about several cultures: Taino Indian, Arawak and Spanish. An extensive collection of artifacts and trinkets are the main focus of the museum's exhibits. The stone courtyard will leave you breathless, as will the wide range of tropical plants, flowers and small fountains that decorate the premises.

Each visit to Coyaba is a new encounter with beauty, curiosity and nature. The seasons are marked by newly flowering plants and trees. The time of day by the reflection of sunlight on the water. Take a guided tour through the garden, amidst meandering streams and ponds, climb Mahoe Falls and dip in the pool at the base of the Falls, a photographers dream, wander on your own, or dream away the hours to the roar of falling water.
