Folly Great House: Port Antonio Attractions & Sightseeing, Jamaica

Folly Great House

Portland

This old, crumbling mansion was built in a neo–classical Greek and Roman style, an unusual contrast with the tropical Jamaican countryside.

The Folly Point Lighthouse was built in 1888. The Tower is constructed of masonry and is fire proof. It flashes a white light of 2 seconds duration followed by 8 seconds of darkness. The light is visible for a distance of thirteen miles.

This house was built in 1905 by Arthur Mitchell, an American millionaire, for his wife Annie –– the daughter of Charles Tiffany (founder of the famous New York jewelry store). The desecrated ruins lie on Folly Peninsula in the East Harbour, right on the outskirts of Port Antonio.
