The museum is situated on the site of the legendary King of Reggae Bob Marley home. The 19th century architecture house was Marley's home until his death in 1981. It was converted into a museum six years later by his wife, Mrs Rita Marley. The main museum displays Marley's personal treasures. Devon House
The Devon House Mansion is the architectural dream of Jamaica's first black millionaire George Stiebel and one of Jamaica's most celebrated historical landmarks. Stiebel was among three wealthy Jamaicans who constructed elaborate homes during the late 19th century at the corner of Trafalgar Road and Hope Road. Stiebel's legacy lives on with the beautifully maintained Devon House, which was declared a national monument in 1990 by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust. The early history of Devon House dates back to the mid seventeenth century when Britain captured Jamaica from Spain.
Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum of Jamaica (NHMJ) is the oldest division of the Institute of Jamaica. The NHMJ grew out of the Science Museum and was established in 1879. We research, classify, identify, document, exhibit and disseminate information on Jamaica's Natural History. Natural History is the study of all natural phenomenon including man, animals, plants, rocks and minerals. The NHMJ collections are the national repository of Jamaican flora and fauna as stipulated under the Institute of Jamaica Act of 1979. The NHD has, from its inception, been a pioneer of science studies in Jamaica.
African Caribbean Institute
Founded in 1972, the African Caribbean Institute is a part of the Institute of Jamaica. The ACIJ started with the goal to 'deepen the awareness of the contribution of African cultural retention'. In addition to a research centre, the ACIJ also has a museum of Jamaica's African heritage, and offers artifacts and audiovisual displays for your perusal.
