Bloody Bay: Negril Attractions & Sightseeing, Jamaica

Bloody Bay

On Negril's northern coast, Bloody Bay is a popular attraction that can be reached by a network of roads branching from the highway that runs along the north end of the island.

In the 16th century, Negril was a pirates' capital. English buccaneers benefited from its location to attack the Spanish ships on their way to Cuba. Sir John Hawkings and Francis Drake were two of the most famous local pirates. Some years later the pirates left Negril, and established in port royal.

A well known pirate by the name of Jack Rackam, also known as Calico Jack is known to have spent much time in Bloody Bay. Rackam is known more for his association with two female pirates than for his own exploits.

In 1720, Rackham and his cohorts were finally captured by the English, who had grown tired of their plundering of British vessels.
