The Throne Room: Negril Attractions & Sightseeing, Jamaica

The most famous dive site is "The Throne Room", with a depth ranging from 12 to 21m (40-70_ft.). The site enables divers to enter at one end and ascend into the open air at the other. The orange elephant ear sponges that flourish here are the largest in Jamaica.

Here the reef structure has a low profile, with small coral heads and sponges. The entrance to the Throne Room, a fairly wide but low cavern, is a crack in the reef about 25_ft long and 8_ft wide. The walls on the inside are covered with colourful sponges and on the bottom near to the exit you can see a large orange elephant ear sponge that supposedly looks like a throne. Leaving the Throne Room, you swim through a large opening, coming out into deeper reef at 70_ft. Continuing the dive turning right, the reef forms low overhangs covered with sponges.

Through a crack in the reef, you can see sponge, eels, octopus, turtles, barracuda, a variety of fish, stings rays and snappers.
