Mandeville Courthouse

The Mandeville Court House was built in 1817. It was constructed in the Jamaica Georgian style with two storeys, the top floor having columns, louvers and sash windows.The court house is actually the oldest building in the Mandeville Square, having been erected only two years after the town had been incorporated in 1815. Slave labour was used in the construction of this bastion of justice. The lower storey was used as the first school house during the early days of the town.

Mandeville is ideally located to explore the surrounding areas included the Black River, which is 34 miles long and is the longest river in Jamaica. The shrimp caught in the Black River which has made Middle Quarter famous for it's spicy hot peppered shrimps. Mrs. Stephenson's Gardens is a showcase of Jamaican flowers and you can enjoy her award winning orchid lovingly cared for in the greenhouses. Milk River Baths

Milk River Bath is another of Jamaica's great spas. The radioactivity of the water is many times greater than many of the world's famous spas. The origins of the bath is very interesting, rooted in Jamaica's slave history. The story begins with a slave owned by a man named Jonathan Ludford. He was beaten by his master and ran away into the forest. The slave came upon the Milk River Bath and washed his wounds. The bath soothed his wounds and they began to heal. Upon returning to the slave village his slave master agreed not punish him if he told him the location of the spring.

Mrs. Stephenson's Garden

Mrs. Stephenson's Garden is a private garden in the area worth visiting is Mrs. Stephenson's Garden, one of the most beautiful and well maintained in the area. An artist, Carmen Stephenson, still supervises this flamboyant "secret garden" herself. Mrs. Stephenson's Garden reputed to be one of the finest in the island. Tours, conducted by the horticulturist herself, can be arranged. She also runs Stephenson's Flowers shop.

Lover's Leap

Lovers Leap consists of a cliff with a drop of approximately 1,600 feet. The legend associated with the site is that during the days of enslavement two young lovers used to meet secretly on the adjoining Yardley Chase Plantation. The owner wanted the female for himself and arranged to have her lover sold. Not wanting to be separated, the two hand in hand plunged to their death.

YS Falls

There are seven waterfalls, several which cascade into natural pools. Some areas are fairly rocky and do not allow swimming. Lifeguards on site, indicate which areas are for swimming, however, being able to swim is a requirement. There is a natural pool, fed by underground and above ground springs, which is more suitable for children and others unable to swim. If you seek total relaxation, you may choose to spend the day as an observer, immersed in the bounty of nature,surrounded by water, gardens, giant trees and constant surprise of tropical birds.
