Jamaica has some of the best deep sea fishing that will satisfy any angler from beginner to season professional. Jamaican deep sea fishing is extremely popular among tourist and locals alike. Jamaica hosts two of the largest fishing tournaments, the International Fishing Tournament and Jamaica International Blue Marlin Team Tournament. These two tournaments are renowned for some of the largest blue marline fish caught in the Caribbean. The tournaments are held between September and October each year.

The Caribbean underwater geography create a rich marine environment for several types of fish such as the blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish, mahi mahi, wahoo, barracuda, red snapper, grouper, bonita, shark, green jack, jack fish, yellow jack, kingfish, tarpon, striped tuna, black fin tuna and yellow fin tuna.

The varied marine habitat in the Caribbean favors several species of fish. You will find lager species of fish such as the blue and white marlin in deeper open water. While other species like living closer to the shore in shallow white sand water, amongst the bright vibrant color reefs and the underwater cliff faces. The shallow costal water and reefs favors bottom fishing and fly fishing anglers. Where as the deep blue Caribbean waters favor deep sea fishing anglers.

Sport fishing and deep sea fishing in the Caribbean attracts a lot of sportsmen from around the world, who go fishing for big sports fish each year. Most of the fish caught are landed, but ever increasingly fish are caught and release. Anglers will have a very good chance of catching one or more of the deep sea fishing species. The ultimate deep sea fishing experience would be to hook a blue marlin which can take several hours to land (caught and release).

You can charter fully equipped deep sea fishing boats from most major tourist resort in Jamaica such as Port Antonio – Portland, Montego Bay – Saint James, Negril – Westmoreland, Kingston – Capital of Jamaica, Ocho Rios – St. Ann, Discovery Bay – St. Ann, Treasure Beach – St. Elizabeth, Runaway Bay – St. Ann, Falmouth – Trelawny, Trelawny – Cornwall and Boscobel Beach – St Mary. A typical deep sea fishing charter will last for either a half day or a full day. It normally takes about 5-15 minutes before you start fishing after leaving the marina. Deep Sea Fishing on Jamaica's Northern Coast is generally good year round.

You can charter a deep sea fishing boats that range from a regular deep sea boat, to large luxury boat that caters for the budget angler to the more affluent angler. The boat come equipped with an experienced captain and crew, all tackle, air condition bedroom, galley and bathroom. Some refreshment and snacks are provided on some charter (please check).
