Dunn's River Falls is a famous waterfall near Ocho Rios, Jamaica and a major Caribbean tourist attraction. Dunns River Falls located in Ocho Rios a few miles from the city center. The Dunns River Falls cascade over smooth lime stone rocks, through the tropical rain forest all the way to the white sandy beach below. You can climb up the water falls which is 183 meters (600 feet) high. The falls are made up of limestone which tiers gradually allowing you to climb from the beach to the top, taking some of the most spectacular scenery along the way.
Dunns River Falls is one of Jamaica’s national natural treasures. The beautiful white sandy beach at the bottom of the water falls was featured in James Bond film Dr No. The Dunns River Falls is also use as the back drop for many photo shots, advertising and weddings.
The Spaniards called the area "Las Chorreras", the waterfalls or springs. The name "Las Chorreras" has degenerated over the years to "Ocho Rios" (meaning eight rivers), although there are actually only four rivers in the area - Cave River, Roaring River, Turtle River and Dunns River. Ocho Rios is one of Jamaica’s fastest growing holiday resorts with great hotels, long white sandy beaches, shopping, restaurants, bars (pubs), sightseeing and more.
Dunn's River Falls is unique. Described as a living and growing phenomenon, it continuously regenerates itself from deposits of travertine rock, the result of precipitation of calcium carbonate with thermal spring activity found in limestone caves. This, combined with its location near to the sea, gives Dunn's River the distinction of being the only one of its kind in the Caribbean.
Dunn's River Falls Park has excellent parking facilities, picnic areas, as well as terracing and decks, which allow scenic views of the falls for those that cannot climb the falls. Dunn's River Falls Park is the perfect environment for fun and relaxation for the entire family. The Cafeteria has savoury delights to please any palate from spicy jerked chicken, pork, fish, curried goat, rice and peas, rice and delectable snacks. You can also take advantage of the several barbecue pits around the park. The park also offers excellent shopping opportunities for souvenirs such as t-shirts, wood carvings and craft items.
You climb the Dunns River Falls in a human chain led by an experience guide, who will also take your camera and pictures as you climb. You will also be accompanied by a videographer who will make a video of your climb, which you can purchase at the end of your climb on a DVD. Smaller water falls create cool refreshing pools where climbers can take a dip. Enjoy the cool plunge pools formed naturally in the river rocks and the waterfalls which are gentle in some places and positively thunder in others. There is a section of the falls where you can go down a natural slide, where you get submerge at the bottom. There are lot of opportunities where you can stop and get your picture taken against the back drop of the water falls.
Your tour includes admission to the Dunn's River Fall's which we generally like to tackle first thing in the morning to avoid the large cruise ship tours. Your Dunn's River Guides are excellent and will give you all the support and confidence you will need to accomplish this journey.
