Luminous Lagoon

Luminous Lagoon Glistening Waters

One of the world's largest concentrations of bio luminescent micro organisms exists at Luminous Lagoon at Glistening Waters in Falmouth, Jamaica. This lagoon, surrounded by mangroves, is home to microscopic organisms that emit a phosphorescent light when the water is agitated. Plan your trip for dusk and then take a boat ride onto the lagoon. As the water is disturbed, you'll see an eerie light illuminating the waters below.

Falmouth Court House

Falmouth Old Town

Visit the historic Town of Falmouth and view the 18th century architecture and capture the moment on camera. Speak with the towns people and get in touch with Jamaican culture. Falmouth is known as one of the best preserved Georgian towns in the Caribbean. The town was founded by Thomas Reid in 1769 with wide streets laid out in a grid with water supply and public buildings. Falmouth port was the main shipping port for the flourishing sugar industry at the time and became a flourishing market center in Jamaica.

Good Hope Great House

Good Hope Great House

Good Hope Plantation in Falmouth has been lovingly restored as a fabulous estate which has its history recorded from the 18th Century, absolute gracious surroundings with today's contemporary comfort and conveniences. Sitting high in the lush secluded landscape of Cockpit Country stands an Eighteenth Century Great House named Good Hope. On 2,000 acres 600' above sea level, Good Hope is framed by dramatic blue-gray mountains and renowned for its exquisite gardens and country trails.

Greenwood Great House

Greenwood Great House

The Barretts of Wimpole Street fame came to Jamaica in the 1660s and amassed great wealth from their sugar plantations. They built Greenwood in 1790 as a guest house. Both Greenwood and Barrett Hall, a couple miles up the hill behind it, once belonged to Richard Barrett, a leading planter in the island who was once Speaker of the Assembly and Custos of the parish of St. James.

Rose Hall Great House

Rose Hall Great House

Visit the Rose Hall Great House which is a classic 18th century sugar plantation mansion built on the shores of Montego Bay in 1780. However, this is more than a pretty house, its last mistress, Annie Palmer (the White Witch of Rose Hall) is an infamous figure in Jamaican history and the house also tells her story. A practitioner of voodoo, the Haitian art of black magic, Palmer presided over her plantation and the slaves who worked it in a cruel and was met with a violent death in a slave uprising in 1831.
