Moore Town Maroons Tours and Sightseeing Excursions Overview

Moore Town Maroons

Moore Town Maroons

Moore Town is home to the descendants of independent communities of former runaway slaves known as Maroons. The African ancestors of the Moore Town Maroons were forcibly removed from their native lands to the Caribbean by Spanish slave traders in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The term Maroon, derived from the Spanish word cimarron (wild), refers to those slaves who fled the plantations in the early 1600s and established their own settlements in the Blue and John Crow Mountains of eastern Jamaica. You are welcome to walk around the town. Be sure to see Bump Grave in the town square, the town's best known site and burial place of national heroine Nanny.

The Blue & John Crow Mountains National Park

The Blue & John Crow Mountains National Park

Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park is located in the eastern end of Jamaica. In 1990, Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park was declared Jamaica's first terrestrial national park. Located on the eastern end of the island, it protects one third of the approximately 30 percent of Jamaica that is still under natural forest cover. The park is divided into three sections: Portland Gap which includes Stony Hill and the Hills of St Andrew; Hollywell and Annotto Bay; and Portland and Millbank which include the John Crow Mountains.

Options and Extras (See Tour Options Below)

Bob Marley Museum

Bob Marley Museum

The Bob Marley Museum is located on Hope Road in New Kingston. One of the most popular attraction in Kingston and a must see for visitors to Jamaica. The museum is situated on the site of the legendary King of Reggae Bob Marley home. The 19th century architecture house was Marley's home until his death in 1981. It was converted into a museum six years later by his wife, Mrs Rita Marley. The main museum displays Marley's personal treasures. The property also features a well-equipped 80 seater theatre, a photographic gallery, and a gift shop. The venue allows you to see every aspect of the life of Bob Marley.

Devon House

Devon House

The Devon House Mansion is the architectural dream of Jamaica's first black millionaire George Stiebel and one of Jamaica's most celebrated historical landmarks. Stiebel was among three wealthy Jamaicans who constructed elaborate homes during the late 19th century at the corner of Trafalgar Road and Hope Road. Stiebel's legacy lives on with the beautifully maintained Devon House, which was declared a national monument in 1990 by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust. The early history of Devon House dates back to the mid seventeenth century when Britain captured Jamaica from Spain.

Ideal for the entire family - Restricted access to wheel chair for some outdoor, adventure activities.
