Your well-informed captain shows you the flora and fauna that inhabits the banks of the longest river on the island. Explore remote mangrove swamps and view crocodiles and other native species in their natural habitat. Over 100 species of birds have been recorded in the Black River morass and many are seen during your trip.

Bamboo Avenue

Bamboo Avenue

Often called "Holland Bamboo" is a four-kilometer-long attraction established by the owners of Holland Estate and dates back to the 19th century. One of the most photographed places in Jamaica is the 2 ½ mile long Bamboo Avenue located between Middle Quarters and Lacovia. Stands of bamboo growing alongside the road form a green, feathery tunnel that flutters with the slightest breeze. Bamboo is regarded as the fastest growing plant in the world. The species of bamboo grown in Bamboo Avenue is Bambusa vulgaris.

Floyd's Pelican Bar

Floyd's Pelican Bar

The Pelican Bar quite literally began life as a dream, local fisherman Floyd Forbes dreamt one night of a bar built out to sea, resting on stilts. The clarity of the dream inspired Forbes to set about building this bar, which he did by transporting large planks of wood on his fishing boat. In 2001 the bar was completed and it was named "The Pelican Bar" after the large flocks of Pelicans who rested on the sand bank. It was originally used by Floyd and his friends to sit and take a break from a hard day's fishing.

Middle Quarters

Middle Quarters

Drive through middle quarters and Bamboo and you'll be greeted by the 'swimp ladies' on the roadside. Freshly caught 'swimp' in boiled on wood fires and sold fresh to passing motorist. They are selling succulent cooked and peppered shrimps caught in nearby Black River. Middle Quarters, the only place on the island to get traditional hot pepper shrimp. It is sold by the bag by women who stand on the edge of the road.

Treasure Beach

Treasure Beach Tour

The Treasure Beach area, on the southwest coast of Jamaica, is quickly becoming a popular destination among off the beaten path aficionados. Treasure Beach lies between the Black River and the alligator pond. The lack of the mass tourism development that has transformed the other tourist destinations in the island, makes of this area one of the most isolated ones in the Caribbean. Take a tour of the Black River, where we will see the crocodiles that inhabit it. Treasure Beach is a gem for travelers in search of the offbeat.

YS Falls

YS Falls

There are seven waterfalls, several which cascade into natural pools. Some areas are fairly rocky and do not allow swimming. Lifeguards on site, indicate which areas are for swimming, however, being able to swim is a requirement. There is a natural pool, fed by underground and above ground springs, which is more suitable for children and others unable to swim. If you seek total relaxation, you may choose to spend the day as an observer, immersed in the bounty of nature, surrounded by water, gardens, giant trees and constant surprise of tropical birds.
